mvvThe big news to come from the Eerste Divisie this week was Tini Ruijs sad decision to leave his role as Coach of MVV Maastricht, Ruijs was subjected to physical abuse after his side were knocked out of the KNVB Beker to amateur side JVC Cuijk on Wednesday. Ruijs has needed police protection at his home & his family have also been threatened so it came as no surprise that he quit ahead of the visit to Ajax Jong last weekend, MVV faired no better without him as they were beaten 3-1.

Dordrecht bounced back to winning ways after their loss at PSV Jong with a 2-0 success at an Almere City side who went into the game five unbeaten & their lead at the top is back to six points after Willem II, who remain second were beaten 1-0 at home to Excelsior thanks to Lars Veldwijk’s 13th goal of the season. Willem II were looking for their sixth win in seven games but suffered a rare off day giving Excelsior three points 7 taking their unbeaten run to five games.

Eindhoven are back to 3rd place after a 3-1 win over Telstar who have now lost their last & have only won one of their last fourteen games, Sparta Rotterdam drop to fourth place after a 1-0 loss at VVV Venlo who move up to fifth place just two points behind Sparta. De Graafschap lost at home for the second time this week after a 2-1 reverse to an inconsistent Helmond Sport side & Den Bosch who won 5-3 at Graafschap last week were back among the goals as they secured their fourth win on the trot with a thrilling 4-3 win over Emmen, Furghill Zeldenrust who is on loan from Waalwijk grabbed an injury time winner.

The bottom two are become isolated after both suffered defeats again this weekend, Achilles have 16 points after they were beaten 4-0 at Twente Jong whilst Oss are a point better off as they went down 2-1 at home to a PSV Jong side who have now lost just one of their last eleven (a defeat to city rivals Eindhoven). After four games without a win Volendam go into the Christmas break on a high after a 2-1 win over Fortuna Sittard, Fortuna have lost five of their last six outings, a surprise win over high flyers Eindhoven their only recent success.
