Following last weekend’s Period 3 drama it was back to the normality of the league this week as the Top three could only manage one paltry point between them. Dordrecht travelled to fourth placed Eindhoven who were on a three game losing streak but they rectified that in a five goal thriller beating the leaders 3-2. Dordrecht are three points ahead at the top as second place Willem II could only record a 1-1 draw with mid table Helmond Sport, Dries Wuytens scoring in both goals. VVV Venlo were brought back to earth from last week’s Period three title as they lost 2-0 at home to an Excelsior side who move into fifth place following their third straight win & one loss in eleven games.
Oss began the weekend in the bottom spot but they move up a place despite suffering a 1-0 reverse to Telstar on Friday, Daryl van Miegham notching his eighth of the season since joining from Heracles, Oss move up a place thanks to De Graafschap beating Achilles 29 4-1 on Sunday & the Groesbeek based outfit drop to the bottom on goal difference. Almere City sit third bottom following a 1-0 loss at Den Bosch but they have a seven point gap on the two teams below them.
Volendam & MVV Maastricht have both found good recent form & met in Volendam with both sides keen to keep up a four match unbeaten run but it was the visitors who won it thanks to a last minute Marco Ospitalieri goal, all this having played the last 25 minutes with 10 men & facing the task of keeping in form Volendam forward Robert Muhren quiet. MVV are in 14th place whilst Volendam drop to seventh. Fortuna Sittard hit five in their last home game & were at it again as they put four past a Twente Jong side to move into 12th place & extend their unbeaten run to four games, Sparta Rotterdam’s woes continue as they fall further behind the top sides after a 4-2 home loss to Ajax Jong, after dispensing with the services of Adrie Bogers Sparta hoped Gert Kruys could turn their fortunes around but he has now lost four of his five games in charge & Sparta have now tasted defeat in six of their last seven outings. Four goals in five starts for Alex Schalk as he hit a double to give PSV Jong a 2-0 win over Emmen in the Monday night game.
