Several sides had new Coaches in charge for the first time as the Eerste Divisie season got back underway after the winter break. Dordrecht led the way before the break & were six points clear at the top but that lead is now just four points after they were held at home to Excelsior for whom Dijkhuizen took to the bench for the first time. Big winners of the weekend were Willem II who won 2-1 at promotion rivals Sparta Rotterdam despite falling behind to a first half Donovan Deekman goal in Gert Kruys first game in charge at the Castle. Willem II fought back in the second half & a double from Ruud Boymans who is now the top scorer with 17 goals won it for the visitors, both sides were reduced to 10 men during a feisty second half & Willem II also picked up bookings that mean three key players (including Boymans) will miss this weekend’s clash with another promotion contender in the shape of VVV Venlo. Eindhoven join Willem II on 43 points after they cruised to a comfortable 4-0 win at crisis club MVV Maastricht who have now lost seven of their last nine games.
All change once more at the foot of the table after Achilles 29 won for the first time in twelve outings to climb off the bottom, they beat Almere City 2-1 whilst Oss lost 1-0 at Fortuna Sittard & are now two points adrift after their fifth loss in six games, there only win in that time was against Achilles.
VVV Venlo came from a goal down to win at local rivals Helmond Sport with former MVV & Fortuna Sittard striker Prince Rajcomer on target, Venlo climb above Sparta Rotterdam into fourth place eight points behind Dordrecht. Den Bosch won their last five games prior to the winter break but they failed to make it six on the trot after they were held to a 1-1 draw with Twente Jong, the in form Felitciano Zschusschen scoring his 10th of the season for Twente Jong. Jimmy Calderwood celebrated his first game at the helm of De Graafschap with two late goals in a 2-0 success at PSV Jong, Telstar ended a run of seven games without a victory as they beat Volendam 2-1 & Emmen hit Ajax Jong for four without reply.
