Sparta went into the game on the back of their shock KNVB Cup exit to RKC Waalkwijk in midweek which left coach Alex Pastoor furious with his players.
He would have been pleased with the start his players made on Saturday evening as Thomas Verhaar forced Robert Zwinkels into an excellent save before Ragner Ache also went close to an opener. At the other end, ADO Den Haag struggled to create chances with Bjørn Johnsen missing their best opportunity before the break.
Zwinkels once again denied Sparta the opener early in the second half and in the 49th minute, Nasser El Khayati broke the deadlock for ADO Den Haag with a fine finish. A fine breakaway from the hosts ended with El Khayati getting the ball at the back post. He jinked to the right before fooling Ryan Korsmit with a low strike into the corner.
In the 55th minute, Korsmit prevented a second ADO goal with four fine saves in the space of a few moments, two of which prevented ex-Spartan Erik Falkenburg.
ADO Den Haag held onto their slender lead which earned them their second win of the campaign and rises them to 12th. Sparta drop to 14th.
