The 30-year-old announced his intention to leave Feyenoord on the final day of the season after they sealed the Eredivisie title as he looks for one final adventure abroad.
The Rotterdam side will grant Elia his wish and it seems that his destination will be Turkey with Basaksehir seriously interested in signing the forward. The Istanbul-based side have been a surprise package in the Turkish Super Lig, and currently, sit 2nd and only two points behind Besiktas with three games left. They have also reached the cup final, where they will face Konyaspor.
Elia started his career with FC Twente, before foreign adventures with Hamburg, Juventus, Werder Bremen and Southampton. In 2015 he returned to his homeland with Feyenoord, scoring 17 times in 51 league games.
a step back he should remain at feynoord they will need him in the champions league
I think this is a positive move for him he’ll play every week and still also play European football.. he’s been great for us wish him the best
I agree with AMR! I too think hes taking a step back going to Turkey as he’d start most weeks for us when fit and of course we have a champions league adventure to look forward too so were going to need strength in depth to battle our way out of the group stages and defended our league tittle also.I hope Gio has a decent group of summer signings to replace the outward bound and the retires.
