Urby Emanuelson saw red as Utrecht were defeated 2-1 by FC Emmen.

Dick Advocaat is set to take charge of Utrecht over the next week but on Sunday, assistants Marinus Dijkhuizen and Rick Kruys took charge.

The interim coaches saw Utrecht make a good start and take the lead in the 13th minute as Sander van de Streek finished off after being set-up by Joris van Overeem.

However, Utrecht didn’t build on their lead and before the break they were reduced to ten men when Urby Emanuelson was shown a straight red card for a late tackle on Glenn Bijl.

With the man extra, Emmen began to dominate and six minutes into the second half, Luciano Slagveer netted the equaliser with a fine finish.

Timo Letschert and Willem Janssen then had chances for Utrecht but it was Emmen who found the winning goal through Bijl, who found the top corner from the edge of the area.

It’s a second win of the season for Emmen and they now have seven points, while Utrecht remain on five.
