FC Emmen has their first point of the season after holding Willem II to a 1-1 draw despite going down to ten men.

Willem II headed to Emmen looking to bounce back from their midweek loss to Rangers in the Europa League.

However, took the lead after five minutes when Michael de Leeuw fired into the net on the rebound after Marko Kolar’s shot was blocked.

Eight minutes later, Vangelis Pavlidis set up Mike Tresor Ndayashimiye to equalise for the visitors with a simple tap-in.

In the second half, VAR played a big role, firstly ruling out a penalty for Emmen with De Leeuw offside. Then, Glenn Bijl was sent off after using his hand to stop a dangerous Willem II attack.

Despite playing against ten-men for half-an-hour, Willem II could not find the winning goal.

Emmen get their first point of the season, while Willem II move onto four points.
