Emmen are out of the bottom three after Caner Cavlan’s double saw them defeat Heerenveen 2-0.

Emmen were the better side from the start and after missed chances for Luciano Slagveer and Anco Jansen, Caner Cavlan made it 1-0 five minutes before the break. Jansen’s shot was parried by Warner Hahn before Cavlan headed in the rebound.

Heerenveen were invisible during the first-half and they failed to improve after the break despite Dennis Johnsen coming on for Nemanja Mihajlovic.

Emmen continued to create chances and in the 75th minute they sealed their victory. Cavlan raced through on the left and from a tight angle sent a low strike through the legs of Hahn.

The win lifts Emmen above Excelsior and De Graafschap into 15th spot. Heerenveen are 10th.
