FC Emmen netted a 94th-minute winner as they came from behind to defeat Groningen 2-1 in the Euroborg.

Groningen controlled the game from the start and came close to the opener early on when Ritsu Doan played Mimoun Mahi in on goal but he couldn’t beat Kjell Scherpen.

After half-an-hour, Doan earned a free-kick on the edge of the box and Tim Handwerker’s effort was tipped onto the woodwork by Scherpen.

It seemed only a matter of time before Groningen scored and in the 87th minute, Mahi headed in what appeared to be the winning goal. However, Emmen went straight down the other end and Nicklas Pedersen equalised.

In injury time, Doan missed a massive chance for Groningen and Emmen won it in the 94th minute when Pedersen netted his second.

The victory means Groningen stay 16th while Emmen rise to 11th.
