The last matchday of the Eredivisie season took place on Sunday with all eighteen sides in action. Below is a round-up of all the results.

Roda JC 2-3 ADO Den Haag

ADO Den Haag have booked their place in the European playoffs after an entertaining 3-2 win at Roda JC, who will now face Almere City in the relegation playoffs.

By halftime, the score was already 3-0 to the visitors with Bjorn Johnsen netting a double either side of a Lex Immers header.

In the second half, Roda JC mounted a comeback with Dani Schahin making it 3-1 before Simon Gustafson netted a penalty to make it 3-2 before the end.

ADO Den Haag finish seventh and will face Vitesse in the first round of the European play-offs. Roda JC remain third bottom and need to prepare to face

AZ Alkmaar 6-0 PEC Zwolle

AZ Alkmaar ended the season in style by thumping PEC Zwolle 6-0 with Alireza Jahanbakhsh grabbing a hat-trick which seals his place at the top of the goalscoring charts.

The Iranian netted the opening goal in the 13th minute for the dominant hosts, who had to wait until the 52nd minute to make it 2-0 through Jahanbakhsh again.

Fredrik Midtso then made it 3-0 before AZ brought on for an Eredivisie debut 17-year-old super talent Myron Boadu, who has missed most of the season through injury. Wout Weghorst then scored a double before Jahanbakhsh sealed a great season by netting his hat-trick.

AZ finish third and will take part in the Europa League next season, while PEC Zwolle drop to ninth and miss out on the European playoffs. A season which started so positively ends with nothing.

Excelsior 1-2 Ajax

Ajax came from behind to seal a final day win against Excelsior.

Erik Ten Hag made several changes to his Ajax eleven with Kasper Dolberg starting up front while Kostas Lamprou and Azor Matusiwa made their league debuts for the club.

Excelsior took the lead on 20 minutes in comical circumstances with Matthijs de Ligt misjudging a back-pass which beat Lamprou and crossed the line.

However, three minutes into the second half, Justin Kluivert equalised with a header from Hakim Ziyech’s cross. Ziyech was then fouled in the box which earned Ajax a penalty, which Dolberg netted to make it 2-1.

Ajax then held on to the lead to book the victory. They finish second and will prepare for an early start to the season in the early rounds of Champions League qualifying. Excelsior finish 11th.

Twente 1-1 NAC Breda

FC Twente couldn’t find a victory on their final day in the Eredivisie while NAC Breda are officially safe.

The hosts started brightly but Menno Koch fired NAC ahead on the half-hour mark. Dylan George latched onto an Adam Maher pass before firing in the equaliser just before the break.

The game was halted in the second half as the home crowd set off fireworks and when the game got back underway it peetered out to a 1-1 draw.

Twente finish bottom and will be in the Eerste Divisie next season while NAC are 14th.

Heerenveen 2-3 Feyenoord

Feyenoord came out on top in a five-goal thriller in Friesland.

Steven Berghuis opened the scoring after only ten minutes before the winger doubled Feyenoord’s advantage four minutes before the break after being set up by Dylan Vente.

In the second-half, Robin van Persie was brought on for what could prove to be the final game of his career. He was given a standing ovation from all parts of the Abe Lenstra Stadion.

The home side then made a comeback with Jordy Bruijns making it 2-1 before Jan-Arie van der Heijden slid a Denzel Dumfries cross into his own net to make it 2-2.

Feyenoord were to come out on top, though, with Bilal Basacikoglu netting a late winner. Feyenoord finish fourth but have the KNVB Cup. Heerenveen are eighth and will face Utrecht in the European playoffs.

Sparta 2-5 Heracles

Sparta Rotterdam couldn’t end the regular seaon with a victory as they were hammered at home by Heracles.

Fred Friday gave the home side the lead on 25 minutes but a minute later Kristoffer Peterson equalised. Stijn Spierings restored Sparta’s lead but then Heracles ran riot with Vincent Vermeij equalising before Tim Breukers and Paul Gladon netted to make it 4-1. Vermeij then scored a fifth late in injury time to seal a big victory.

Sparta finish second bottom and will now come up against Dordrecht in the relegation playoffs.

PSV 0-0 Groningen

Champions PSV Eindhoven ended the campaign with a disappointing 0-0 draw with Groningen.

Phillip Cocu lined up with a strong eleven but lost Bart Ramselaar and Jorrit Hendrix through injury in the first half. The hosts had the better chances but found Sergio Padt in their way time and time again.

PSV will now prepare for the Champions League qualifiers and will look to build a squad to retain their title. Groningen end the season in 12th.

Utrecht 1-0 VVV Venlo

Mateusz Klich netted the only goal of the game as Utrecht defeated VVV Venlo 1-0.

Klich struck in the 71st minute in a rather dull game at the Stadion Galgenwaard. Utrecht finish fifth and will face Heerenveen in the European playoffs. VVV are comfortably safe in 15th.

Willem II 2-2 Vitesse

Vitesse warmed up for the European playoffs with a 2-2 draw at Willem II.

Kostas Tsimikas opened the scoring for the hosts on 29 minutes after Ismail Azzaoui’s strike came back off the post.

After an hour, Matt Miazga headed in the equaliser, but shortly afterwards Ben Rienstra restored Willem II’s lead. Tim Matavz fired in the equaliser late on to earn the visitors a point.

Willem II finish 13th, while Vitesse are 6th and will face ADO Den Haag in the European playoffs.
