The final regular round of the Eredivisie comes this Sunday, with Michael Statham continuing to give his preview and predictions for each match in round 34. All matches this weekend kick-off at 14:30 CET. Many battles in the table are yet to be won, with the relegation play-off positions, European places and the title-race all to be decided.

eredSunday, May 8th

ADO Den Haag v Heerenveen

Another season of mid-table security under Henk Fraser puts ADO in a secure position to build next season, if their Chinese owners decide to open their pockets.

Meanwhile, this is Foppe De Haan’s final match in football management before his retirement and will be hoping for a response to last weekend’s defeat to rivals Groningen.

There’s only pride to play for in this one, and I can see both sides cancelling each other out.

Michael’s prediction: 1-1

Twente v Vitesse

You could argue that Twente deserved a point against Ajax last weekend. They had chances, but were ultimately punished by an efficient Ajax.

Vitesse should have been top six comfortably this season, but now find themselves in the bottom half of the table. Their season was summed up in their match with Utrecht as they had chances to win by two or three, but ended up giving up their advantage to lose the game.

Hakim Ziyech will get a good send off and I think he’ll have a massive impact in his Twente bow.

Michael’s prediction: 2-1

De Graafschap v Ajax

It’s Ajax’s title to lose, and they play a De Graafschap side with nothing to play for as they are set to finish seventeenth ahead of a relegation/promotion play-off.

AZ’s offence was too much for De Superboeren last Sunday, and a ravenous Ajax front-line will want to put this game to bed as soon as possible.

Michael’s prediction: 0-4

PEC Zwolle v PSV

PSV are hoping for a miracle, they won’t beat Zwolle by eight or nine goals, and simply must win this game and hope for the best from elsewhere.

PEC still have a Europa League play-off to grab, and they may need a point here to do so.

PSV’s defending was poor against Cambuur, but this time they’re not trying desperately to score goal after goal.

I think PSV’s good season is set to come to a disappointing end.

Michael’s prediction: 2-2

Cambuur v Excelsior

Cambuur will hope to give their fans something to cheer here, and hopefully some optimism to cling onto as they descend into the Eerste Divisie.

Jack Byrne has been one of their positives in this campaign and it’s exciting that he wants to return to the Netherlands next season.

Excelsior will probably need something here to stave off Willem II. The point cushion along with the better goal difference will count for nothing if the Tilburgers win.

They performed quite well against PEC. So I’ll plump for a draw.

Michael’s prediction: 1-1

Feyenoord v NEC

This season should be seen as a success for Feyenoord. Despite that horrific run of form around Christmas the Rotterdammers have managed to win the cup and better last season’s fourth place.

They face a NEC side on Sunday who have key players leaving in the summer, a manager on his way out and a dreadful record away from home. Home win.

Michael’s prediction: 2-0

Roda JC v Willem II

Roda picked up an unexpected win at NEC last time out. Therefore it makes this game a lot more difficult to predict.

The Tilburgers need something here. Although even a win might not be enough if Excelsior can beat bottom side Cambuur.

Willem II are a better team than Excelsior in my opinion. However the table doesn’t lie and Jurgen Streppel’s men have found goals very hard to come by this season, they are the tied lowest scorers in the division.

Let’s see what happens, but I don’t think this is Willem II’s last game of the season.

Michael’s prediction: 1-1

Groningen v Heracles

It’s been a good turn around for Groningen in the latter stages of the campaign. They now look like claiming a Europa League play-off place.

Heracles were unlucky not to beat ADO. It’s been a good season for them, I hope they can refresh in the summer, add a couple of players in the summer and have another crack at the top six next season.

Michael’s prediction: 1-0

Utrecht v AZ

This match will be a tasty one between teams sitting in fifth and fourth respectively.

It’s a shame there’s not a little more riding on this game, as the only way Utrecht can finish fourth now is by beating their opponents by three goals or more due to goal difference.

Could this be Vincent Janssen’s last game before a move abroad? For me, it’s definitely his last game in an AZ shirt, but he could yet move to Ajax or PSV if either one of the teams wants to cough up some money.

I think Utrecht will win this one, but not by the desired scoreline, and I’d probably tip this game to have plenty of goals.

Michael’s prediction: 2-1
