AZ were easily defeated by FC Twente on Tuesday but they got off to a fast start against Heracles as Aron Johannsson, who was back in the starting eleven, diverted Nemanja Gudelj’s overhead kick past Dennis Telgenkamp.
Ten minutes into the second half Marcus Henriksen showed great skill in the box before setting up Steven Berghuis to slam in AZ’s second. Heracles handed new striker Brahim Darri his debut, and the former Vitesse star pulled a goal back with a deflected effort which looped into the bottom corner.
Heracles pushed for an equaliser but Henriksen sealed the points for AZ in 87th minute when he bundled the ball over the line after Dabney Dos Santos lovely chip over Telgenkamp hit the post.
AZ Alkmaar remain 5th in the table while Heracles stay 16th.
