Cambuur went into the match on the back of two defeats and after such a good start to the season, the Leeuwarden’s side’s campaign is slowly disintegrating after another poor performance against Vitesse.
Bertrand Traore came close to opening the scoring for Vitesse before the half hour mark but the striker’s shot came back off the post. Five minutes later the deadlock was broken by the away side with Valeri Qazaishvili beating Leonard Nienhuis with a shot from the edge of the box. The Cambuur keeper made a good save to deny Traore as Vitesse threatened to add a second before the break.
Ten minutes into the second half a corner was flicked on at the near post and Denys Oliiynk had a simple finish to make it 2-0 as the snow began to fall heavily on the artificial pitch.
With a thick layer of snow laying on the pitch good football was impossible which dented Cambuur’s chances of a comeback and Vitesse comfortably held on for the three points.
Vitesse climb to 8th in the table while Cambuur slip to 10th.
