The post twice came to Groningen’s rescue as they held Excelsior to a 1-1 draw in Rotterdam.

Excelsior created a number of chances during the first half but it wasn’t until a minutes after the break that they finally made their dominance count with Daan Bovenberg bundling a corner over the line at the back post.
The lead only lasted 12 minutes as Eric Botteghin’s cross to the back post was met perfectly by midfielder Albert Rusnak who’s volley flew past Coutinho to level the scores.
Neither side was able to find the winning goal but Excelsior will be cursing their luck after Ninos Gouriye firstly struck the left hand post before hitting the right hand side of the woodwork shortly afterwards.
Excelsior sit 12th while Groningen are 10th.
