Go Ahead Eagles new signing Wesley Verhoek, who completed his loan deal from Feyenoord this week, went straight into the starting line-up and despite being anonymous for most of the first half, he played a crucial role in the only goal of the game. Verhoek was on the ball when ADO Den Haag defender Vito Wormgoor handled in the box, earning himself a red card and Go Ahead a penalty which Jop van der Linden dispatched calmly on 43 minutes.
With ten men ADO Den Haag barely threatened an equaliser in the second half, and the scoreline should have been greater for Go Ahead but the home side passed up a number of great opportunities while Deniz Turuc’s shot came back off the post
The win lifts Go Ahead Eagles above Heracles and ADO Den Haag and into 14th.
