The home side went into the game desperate for three points to lift them off the bottom of the table and they got off to a flying start with Darren Maatsen curling a strike into the top corner on seven minutes.
However, Heerenveen replied quickly through Reza Ghoochannejhad, who finished off Sam Larsson’s cross on 20 minutes and the striker then made it 2-1 shortly afterwards with a close-range header.
On the stroke of half-time, Yuki Kobayashi scored on the rebound when Arber Zeneli’s strike came back off the post to seal the victory for the visitors. Go Ahead Eagles attempted a comeback in the second half but Xandro Schenk saw a penalty appeal turned down before Marcel Ritzmaier hit the post.
The defeat keeps Go Ahead Eagles on the bottom of the table, while Heerenveen rise to fourth.
