A controversial late goal denied Heracles their first win in five league games as they were held 2-2 by Groningen.

darri fbfhfhfThe home side went into the game on the back of four straight defeats, but they took control from the start and new signing Brahim Darri netted his second in two games by racing onto a long ball before firing past Sergio Padt on 38 minutes to cap an impressive first half by the attacker.

Groningen woke up after the break and eventually equalised after the hour mark when Albert Rusnak’s attempted shot was helped over the line by Michael de Leeuw from close range.

Heracles thought they had found the winner 15 minutes from time when Wout Weghorst powerfully headed in Bryan Linssen’s volleyed cross. However with two minutes to go Groningen scored a controversial equaliser as the ball seemed to run out of play before Mimoun Mahi crossed for Tjarron Chery to guide the ball into the net.

The goal stood and Heracles were made to wait for their first win in 2015 and they remain 16th while Groningen are 9th.
