A lacklustre Feyenoord suffered their second straight away defeat as they were shocked 2-0 by Heracles Almelo in the Polman Stadion.

0000 herBoth sides struggled to create chances in the first half, but in injury time, Terence Kongolo, celebrating his 21st birthday, sliced a clearance straight at Bryan Linssen and the Heracles winger brilliantly volleyed over Kenneth Vermeer to give the home side the lead.

Feyenoord boss Fred Rutten looked to change his side’s slackness by bringing off Sven van Beek for Tonny Vilhena and going three at the back, but Heracles shackled the Rotterdammers well and restricted them to long range efforts. On 75 minutes Lex Immers was presented with Feyenoord’s best chance in the game but his header came back off the post.

With five minutes to go Heracles sealed the win with Linssen turning provider as his curled cross into the box was met by an unmarked Thomas Bruns who beat Vermeer with a simple header. The home side could have added another goal before the end but Mark-Jan Fledderus shot inches wide from the edge of the box and substitute Jaroslav Navratil hit the post after racing through on goal.

An excellent win for Heracles which is their first in six Eredivisie games and the three points puts them level with Go Ahead Eagles in 15th. Feyenoord’s worst performance of the season leaves them five points off Ajax in second, who play tomorrow, and they have to pick themselves up for the midweek trip to Roma in the Europa League.
