PSV Eindhoven are on the verge of clinching the Eredivisie title after a 3-1 win over PEC Zwolle on Friday night.

BRENET PSVA win over PEC Zwolle, coupled with Ajax losing to Heracles on Saturday would clinch the title for PSV this weekend, and from the start Phillip Cocu’s side looked determined and took the initiative quickly.

After 11 minutes of pressure PSV finally found the opener when Georginio Wijnaldum fired Luciano Narsingh’s cross into the top corner, and it seemed like the home side were set to romp to victory as they created chance after chance. However just after the half hour mark a corner was not dealt with by the PSV defence and Maikel van der Werff side-footed PEC Zwolle level.

PEC Zwolle nearly took the lead a minute in the second half but Jeroen Zoet denied Jesper Drost, and moments later a spectacular volley from right back Joshua Brenet flew past Warner Hahn to restore PSV’s lead.

Memphis Depay had a frustrating night as he searched for his 20th Eredivisie goal, with Hahn thwarting the winger on several occasions. However in the 93rd minute Andres Guardado played Depay through on goal, and after searching for an angle to shoot the attacker’s cross found its way to the edge of the box for Luuk de Jong to fire in PSV’s third and seal the win.

PSV could win the title tomorrow should Ajax slip up, but more likely is that the Eindhoven side have to wait until next week where a win against Heerenveen at the Phillips Stadion will be enough to seal the trophy.
