Twente went into the game having won only once in their last five league games, and fingers were starting to be pointed at Schreuder, who’s side once again looked far from impressive in the early stages on Friday night.
The home side barely threatened Dennis Telgenkamp in the opening half hour, and when Orlando Engelaar finally had a serious effort on goal the Heracles goalkeeper was equal to it. Just before the break Jesus Corona wasted a terrific chance to give Twente the lead as the Mexican could only blast over the bar from a few yards out.
Just after the hour mark Twente had the lead, but the goal was the result of a terrible error from Heracles defender Ramon Zomer who’s back pass was far too slack and Jesus Corona stabbed the ball past a stranded Telgenkamp. Ten minutes later Heracles had the ball in the net, but Mike te Wierik’s goal was disallowed for hand ball.
Seventeen-year-old Bilal Ould Chikh came off the bench to make an impressive cameo, firstly smacking the crossbar before sealing the three points by curling a brilliant effort into the top corner from outside the box for his first Eredivisie strike.
The win lifts Twente up to 5th, while Heracles, who have now lost three on the bounce, remain just above the relegation zone in 15th.
