It has been a turbulent week for Twente with the KNVB deducting three points from the Enschede club after money troubles, and on the pitch things did’t look to be getting any better when Jerson Cabral, on loan from Twente, netted a double before the 23rd minute. The winger ghosted through the Twente defence to prod in from close range on 18 minutes, and five minutes later he latched onto Terell Ondaan’s pass before firing past Sonny Stevens.
Without a win in five games, Twente lacked confidence and Luc Castaignos put a great chance wide of the post. However in Hakim Ziyech Twente have a player capable of lifting their game in an instant. The classy midfielder pulled a goal back just before half time with a curling free kick which flew past Kostas Lamprou, and less than ten minutes into the second half Ziyech leveled the scores, tapping in at the back post after good build up play.
Castaignos came close to earning Twente a late winner, but in the end they settled for a draw which takes them back above Cambuur into eighth. Willem II remain 10th.
