Vitesse v Groningen

Michael’s prediction: Vitesse have all of a sudden hit a bump with back-to-back defeats, but it can’t be that large of a shock given how fortunate they’ve been with some of their good results. Groningen are defending really solidly at the moment – a continuation of last season. Kaj Sierhuis seems confident and could make the difference on Friday night. 0-2 | Tip: Groningen double chance.

Mega’s prediction: Vitesse are in a dip at the moment with the loss against Emmen and ADO. Groningen defensively look really good at the moment and are doing better than I expacted. I expect a balanced game, Vitesse are favorites but it could be a difficult night for them. 1-1

Saturday, 9th November

Heerenveen v Sparta Rotterdam

Michael’s prediction: Heerenveen are seven unbeaten whilst Sparta seem to be becoming a fairly consistent Eredivisie outfit. I think the Frisians are clicking into a unit: Sven Botman is developing far better than expected in defence, Terence Kongolo is cutting his teeth in midfield and Jens Odgaard is growing as a more effective striker. All points towards another positive Heerenveen result; I also don’t think Sparta play anywhere near their best away from home. 3-0 | Tip: Heerenveen +1.5 team goals.

Mega’s prediction: Heerenveen look really strong to me in the last games. In the game against AZ Alkmaar, they where ultra effective and really dangerous with set-pieces. Sparta are having a really good season so far and drew against PSV, but they are inconsistent just like Heerenveen was at the start of the season. 2-1

Fortuna Sittard v ADO Den Haag

Michael’s prediction: Fortuna were better than ADO in the Dutch Cup last week but the side from the Hague won well against Vitesse the weekend before. I still have my doubts over ADO this season but Fortuna can be very poor defensively. Mark Diemers is the heartbeat of the home side and he could be important again to scrape what I think will be a more difficult second encounter with Den Haag. 2-1 | Tip: Over 2.5 goals.

Mega’s prediction: Both teams met each other in the cup last week, Fortuna Sittard won the game 3-0 but lost last weekend 6-0 against FC Utrecht. Both teams are really inconsistent. 1-1

Heracles Almelo v VVV-Venlo

Michael’s prediction: Heracles will be knocking around the top half of the Eredivisie for most of the season, but they were slightly embarrassed by RKC last time out. VVV are in danger of entering the international break on the back of eight defeats in all competitions and I just think they will find Heracles too quick and dangerous for them. I’m really unsure on Robert Maaskant. Before, former manager Maurice Steijn would have got the best from his squad and formed a counter-attacking machine to earn results from places like Almelo. That simply isn’t the case with this leaky, conservative team. 3-0 | Tip: Heracles -1.5 Asian handicap.

Mega’s prediction: Heracles are doing well (when you look at the table). But they lost last weekend – 2-0 at RKC, but they won in the cup 4-3 in a fantastic game. VVV have had a terrible season so far and are now in the direct relegation spots. 3-1

Sunday, 10th November

Ajax v FC UtrechtDelayed airing on Premier Sports 2

Michael’s prediction: As it is Eredivisie Predictions, I won’t go into the travesty that was the refereeing in Ajax’s frustrating draw with Chelsea, having held a three-goal lead. It does, however, show the current strength – yet again – of this Ajax side. Nevertheless, after such a draining result, I believe Utrecht will rock the Amsterdammers. Gyrano Kerk’s bustling pace and finishing will cause problems on the break; and a positive day for Utrecht – prepared all week by John van den Brom – will see Ajax drop points on a rare occasion. 2-2 | Tip: Utrecht double chance.

Mega’s prediction: Ajax drew in the Champions League in a really strange way against Chelsea (4-4). I think Ajax have a lot more quality than Utrecht and I expect a win for the Amsterdammers. 3-1

FC Twente v PEC Zwolle

Michael’s prediction: PEC Zwolle have always been a little short this season. John Stegeman has had a few issues, including injuries and his front three showing inconsistency. First goals and playing at home seem to be more important than usual this season in the Eredivisie; however, I’m going for a draw here and PEC to pick up a few good results before the winter break. 1-1 | Tip: Both teams to score.

Mega’s prediction: Twente have to play without their goalkeeper Joel Drommel after the red card in the game against AZ Alkmaar. PEC showed against Ajax that the players want to fight for each other. FC Twente are the favourites on paper but I expect a surprise from Zwolle. 1-2

Willem II v PSVDelayed airing on Premier Sports 2

Michael’s prediction: When I say that one of these teams is winless in five, you wouldn’t expect it to be PSV. Out of these five, I only predicted PSV to lose against AZ, and whilst there are clear selection problems for Mark van Bommel, he simply hasn’t had the brains nor has he motivated his troops to clear this rough patch of tricky games and player unavailability. Young winger Cody Gakpo is covering as a striker, Michal Sadilek continues to suffer at left-back and neither Erik GutiĆ©rrez nor Bruma are playing to their potential. On this evidence, I don’t see anything changing for PSV. Willem II will up their game for the visit of their Branbant rivals and the winless run shall continue. 1-1 | Tip: Willem II double chance.

Mega’s prediction: Willem II are doing really good this season. And although they lost against FC Groningen, sixth position is more than justified. A lot has to change at PSV, and I expect that this Sunday could be the start of the huge PSV comeback. They have to play in the Europe League on Thursday but I still expect a win for PSV. 1-3

Feyenoord v RKC Walwijk – Delayed airing on Premier Sports 2

Michael’s prediction: Dick Advocaat has had a clear influence on Feyenoord already. They’re more organised and the players are playing for Advocaat. The squad obviously didn’t believe in Jaap Stam. RKC received their first Eredivisie victory of the season last weekend, but this is a totally different proposition. 2-0 | Tip: Berghuis to score at any time.

Mega’s prediction: Both Feyenoord and RKC could finally celebrate this weekend! For Feyenoord it was a straight-forward win for Dick Advocaat in his first game in Venlo, and for RKC it was their first win this season at all! I expect that Dick and his men will beat RKC. 3-0

AZ Alkmaar v FC Emmen

Michael’s prediction: AZ continue to improve and impress. I predicted a few weeks ago that they will grow their team ethic further and their star players will develop into Netherlands internationals. They will comfortably beat Emmen. 4-0 | Tip: AZ team goals +2.5.

Mega’s prediction: AZ are in HUGE form, but also Emmen are doing great at the moment. AZ play in Kazakhstan on Thursday against Astana and even when the players are always fit, this could be a factor in the game. 2-0
