Ajax were also big winners at the weekend, beating NAC 4-0, while Feyenoord, Utrecht, Twente, Heracles, ADO Den Haag and Go Ahead Eagles all had victories. The weekends only draw came on Saturday as RKC and Cambuur finished 2-2.
Our team of the week is:
Goalkeeper: Robbin Ruiter (Utrecht)
With Utrecht leading NEC 1-0 on Friday night, Ruiter saved a Michael Higdon penalty before his side went on to seal victory with their second goal. Ruiter made a number of saves throughout the match in an excellent performance.
Right Back: Kelvin Leerdam (Vitesse)
Dealt well with Memphis Depay in Vitesse’s win over PSV, and scored one of the six goals. Always looking to get forward, Leerdam was excellent at linking play with the midfield.
Left Back: Patrick van Aanholt (Vitesse)
Van Aanholt was excellent in Vitesse’s 6-2 win over PSV as the left back not only netted with a fine move, but also finished the game with two assists.
Centre back: Jop van der Linden (Go Ahead Eagles)
The big defender sent in the free-kick which led to his side’s opener against rivals PEC Zwolle, whilst also netted himself later in the 4-1 win.
Centre Back: Niklas Moisander (Ajax)
Moisander was excellent at the back for Ajax in their 4-0 win over NAC Breda, and proved to be an attacking threat as he completed the most passes in the final third of the pitch throughout the league this weekend.
Midfielder: Davy Klaassen (Ajax)
Ajax have found their new midfield hero as Klaassen scored an excellent hat-trick in the 4-0 win over NAC Breda. His second goal was an excellent Bergkamp-eque volley.
Midfielder: Davy Propper (Vitesse)
Propper has been one of the standout players for Vitesse over the past few weeks, and the midfielder was once again excellent in the hammering of PSV. Propper scored twice to cap off a great all round performance.
Midfielder: Lucas Piazon (Vitesse)
Piazon has tore apart defences since joining Vitesse in the summer, and PSV were unable to handle the Chelsea man as he contributed two assists and scored in the 6-2 win.
Forward: Youness Mokhtar (Twente)
Mokhtar started Saturday’s game as a replacement for Quincy Promes, but finished as the man of the match after scoring twice to defeat AZ. The winger could have had a hat-trick but hit the woodwork with another effort.
Forward: Jean-Paul Boetius (Feyenoord)
Boetius is back to the form which saw him break into the Feyenoord first team last season, with the winger causing Heerenveen problems all game. The winger opened the scoring early on with an excellent chip.
Forward: Michiel Hemmen (Cambuur)
Hemmen was in great form on Saturday to help Cambuur secure a 2-2 draw with relegation rivals RKC. The striker netted twice as his side claimed a precious point.
