Round 18 saw Ajax climb to the top of the table, while Heerenveen hammered AZ Alkmaar 5-1. There were wins for PSV Eindhoven, Go Ahead Eagles, NAC Breda, Groningen, and Feyenoord. Vitesse threw away a two goal lead to draw 2-2 with Heracles, while Twente and RKC shared the points in a 1-1 draw.
Our team of the week is as follows:
Goalkeeper: Jeroen Zoet (PSV Eindhoven)
Was barely troubled during PSV’s 2-0 win over ADO Den Haag but came up trumps when it mattered, saving a last minute penalty.
Right Back: Stefano Magnasco (Groningen)
Was great going forward for Groningen in their 5-2 win over NEC contributing an assist, but also made a number of tackles in defence to help his team.
Left Back: Jairo Riedewald (Ajax)
What a dream debut for the 17-year-old, comes off the bench to net not only the equaliser, but also the winner in Ajax’s 2-1 win over Roda JC.
Centre Back: Stefan de Vrij (Feyenoord)
An accomplished performance by the Feyenoord defender, as he helped his side shut out PEC Zwolle in the 3-0 win at De Kuip on Saturday. De Vrij won 100% of his aerial duels, whilst also ending the game with an 88% pass accuracy.
Centre Back: Joel Veltman (Ajax)
Another game another excellent performance by Ajax’s young star as he defended perfectly against Roda JC in the 2-1 win. His late header also set up the winner.
Midfielder: Lex Immers (Feyenoord)
Immers was the star for Feyenoord, scoring two of their three goals in the win over PEC Zwolle. His first goal was an excellent back post volley, before firing in from the edge of the box.
Midfielder: Hakim Ziyech (Heerenveen)
Undoubtedly Heerenveen’s star man in the 5-1 hammering of AZ Alkmaar on Saturday. Scored two brilliant goals and added an assist. A future Netherlands star in the making.
Midfielder: Marko Vejinovic (Vitesse)
Great performance by the Vitesse midfielder as he provided the assists for both of their goals in the 2-2 draw with Heracles. Ended the game with a 92% pass accuracy, whilst also making a last ditch tackle at the back.
Forward: Alfred Finnbogason (Heerenveen)
Scored his 17th goal of the season, but his all round play against AZ was excellent, as he also provided two assists. Heerenveen fans will be praying he doesn’t leave during the winter break.
Forward: Bryan Linssen (Heracles)
With Heracles 2-0 down to Vitesse on Saturday Bryan Linssen dragged his side back into the game with two nice finishes which earned them a 2-2 draw.
Forward: Michael de Leeuw (Groningen)
The striker not only netted a hat-trick against NEC but also scored one of the goals of the season, which a backheel flick on the turn. A stunning goal which capped an excellent performance.
