Cambuur provided the biggest shock of the weekend by holding Ajax to a 1-1 draw at the Amsterdam Arena, allowing Vitesse to close the gap with a 2-1 win over NAC Breda. Twente slipped up at Go Ahead Eagles, while Feyenoord beat Groningen, and PSV saw off Utrecht. There were also wins for AZ Alkmaar, Roda JC, and Heerenveen, while ADO Den Haag drew 1-1 with RKC.7
Our team of the week is:
Goalkeeper: Robbin Ruiter (Utrecht)
PSV had Utrecht camped in their own half for most of the 1-0 victory on Saturday, and only a number of excellent stops from Ruiter prevented the scoreline from being massive.
Right Back: Mattias Johansson (AZ Alkmaar)
Johansson set up two of Johannsson’s goals in the 4-0 win over Heracles before adding one of his own in the second half. A great display from the right back.
Left Back: Terence Kongolo (Feyenoord)
Kongolo was placed on the left side of a 5-man Feyenoord defence, and was hugely impressive in the 2-0 win over Groningen. It was the defender’s through ball which set up Ruben Schaken to net the opener.
Centre Back: Stefan de Vrij (Feyenoord)
De Vrij was on top of his game to help Feyenoord keep a clean sheet against Groningen, making a number of crucial interceptions before netting the second goal with a header.
Centre Back: Karim Rekik (PSV Eindhoven)
PSV’s defence didn’t have much to do on Saturday night, but when Utrecht did foray into the attacking third they were immediately stopped by Rekik, who made a number of impressive tackles in the 1-0 win.
Midfielder: Sjoerd Overgoor (Go Ahead Eagles)
The Go Ahead midfielder was excellent in their surprise 1-0 win over Twente on Sunday. Overgoor contained Twente’s talented midfield, and helped his side move forward with an 84% pass accuracy.
Midfielder: Anouar Kali (Roda JC)
Roda JC gained a crucial win over relegation rivals NEC Nijmegen on Saturday, with Anouar Kali’s marshaling of the midfield a key reason for the victory. Sitting just in front of the back four Kali was excellent at stopping dangerous NEC attacks before moving his side forward.
Midfielder: Viktor Elm (AZ Alkmaar)
Elm sealed AZ’s 4-0 win with an excellent strike from distance which flew into the top corner. The midfielder also ended the game with an 84% pass accuracy in a dominant display.
Attacker: Bilal Basacikoglu (Heerenveen)
Heerenveen’s impressive young winger was on top form in his side’s 4-0 win over PEC Zwolle, netting the first goal after a fine run, while also posing a constant threat to his opponents defence.
Attacker: Steven Berghuis (AZ Alkmaar)
The winger tormented Heracles right back Jason Davidson, beating him on a number of occasions to set up two goals, while he was also unlucky to not add a goal of his own for an excellent display.
Attacker: Aron Johannsson (AZ Alkmaar)
The first half of the 4-0 win over AZ Alkmaar was the Johannsson show with the striker netting twice, while also hitting the woodwork, and he was also the one fouled for Koenders sending off.
