The Eredivisie is back and we name our team of the week from the first round of matches.

antonia fgronRound one saw champions Ajax start with a 4-1 win over Vitesse, while Feyenoord sneaked past ADO Den Haag 1-0, and PSV saw off Willem II 3-1. There were also wins for PEC Zwolle, Groningen, and AZ Alkmaar, while new boys Dordrecht shocked Heerenveen 2-1. Cambuur v Twente, and NAC Breda v Excelsior both finished 1-1.

Our team of the week is:

GK: Kenneth Vermeer (Ajax)

Despite beating Vitesse 4-1, Ajax would not have been so comfortable if not for some excellent saves from their goalkeeper. Vermeer thwarted Vitesse’s Zakaria Labyad on a number of occasions, including a stunning stop from a close range header.

DF: Ruben Ligeon (Ajax)

Ligeon was very impressive at right back during Ajax’s win over Vitesse, and ended the match with an assist after setting up Nick Viergever’s opener with a great cross. At the back, Ligeon was impressive, making six successful tackles.

DF: Sven van Beek (Feyenoord)

The young centre back won 11 aerial duels during the 1-0 win over ADO Den Haag, whilst ending the match with a 92% pass success rate. Feyenoord may have lost Stefan de Vrij, and Bruno Martins Indi this summer, but it seems in Van Beek they have a ready replacement.

DF: Jeffrey Gouweleeuw (AZ Alkmaar)

AZ Alkmaar may have beaten Heracles 3-0, but they had to be strong at the back, and Gouweleeuw was the pick of the defenders, making three successful tackles, winning 60% of aerial duels, and succeeding with 79% of his tackles.

DF: Marvin Peersman (Dordrecht)

Peersman was imperious at the back for Dordrecht in the win over Heerenveen, keeping tricky winger Luciano Slagveer quiet for the whole game, whilst causing a threat at the other end. The left back won 100% of his aerial duels during the game.

MC: Joris van Overheem (Dordrecht)

Van Overheem netted the winner for Dordrecht in their first Eredivisie game since 1995. The 20-year-old was excellent in his first game in the division, making some nice passes before firing his side to victory.

MC: Albert Rusznak (Cambuur)

On loan from Manchester City, Rusznak wasted no time in impressing his new club by curling in a free-kick from 25-yards to give Cambuur the lead against FC Twente. The 20-year-old ended the game with a passing accuracy of 85% and Cambuur fans will be excited at whats to come from the young talent.

MC: Lasse Schone (Ajax)

Schone was undoubtedly Ajax’s player of the season last year, and the midfielder made an excellent start to this campaign, scoring two goals, including a vicious free-kick which caught goalkeeper Piet Velthuizen off guard.

FW: Steven Berghuis (AZ Alkmaar)

Berghuis inspired AZ Alkmaar’s 3-0 win over Heracles by netting a great opening goal, while he caused his opponents back four numerous problems throughout the game.

FW: Jarchinio Antonia (Groningen)

Antonia came back to haunt his former club, with the winger not only assisting for two goals, he also score the winner as Groningen came back from 2-0 down to beat Go Ahead Eagles 3-2.

FW: Memphis Depay (PSV)

Depay began the season on fire, scoring twice in the 3-1 win over Willem II, while proving throughout the match that he was head and shoulders above everyone else on the pitch in terms of talent. The winger is becoming the most in demand player in the Eredivisie,, and this performance will only increase the interest from clubs like Tottenham.
