PSV’s hopes of finishing 2nd and gaining the last Champions League spot are all but gone after a heavy defeat to Heerenveen at the Abe Lenstra.
Without Memphis Depay, PSV dominated the early stages and should have went in front when Bryan Ruiz had a free header in the box, but he could only direct it at Kristoffer Nordfeldt.
Against the run of play, Heerenveen took the lead on 30 minutes when Balil Basacikoglu followed up his own blocked shot to send a fizzing volley past Jeroen Zoet.
PSV pushed for an equaliser in the second half, but they were once again stung on the break as Rajiv van la Parra made it 2-0 on 78 minutes, with a nice finish from inside the box. With four minutes left, Alfred Finnbogason broke free before rounding Zoet and sliding the ball into the empty net to make it 3-0.
The loss pushes PSV down to 5th, while Heerenveen are now only five points behind in 6th.
NAC Breda 0-2 Twente
Twente are back in the fight for 2nd place after an impressive 2-0 win over NAC Breda, which put their opponent in trouble at the bottom.
The away side were dominant from the kick off, with Andreas Bjelland, and Quincy Promes coming close to the opening goal, before the breakthrough was made on 39 minutes. A corner was swung in from the left, Bjelland flicked it on at the near post, and the ball collided with Felipe Gutierrez and ended up in the back of the net.
Five minutes into the second half, Dusan Tadic sealed the win with a looping header from Youness Mokhtar’s cross. Twente now climb up to 3rd in the table, while NAC are now 15th, and only four points off the bottom three.
NEC 1-1 Cambuur
NEC Nijmegen face a huge battle to escape the relegation play-offs after they were held to a 1-1 draw by Cambuur.
The home side took the lead on 12 minutes when Geoffrey Castillion won a penalty, before picking himself up to score from the spot. NEC should have been further up before the break, and paid for the missed chances when Mart Dijkstra fired in the equaliser from a free kick in first half injury time.
Neither side was able to find the winner in the second half, but three red cards where shown as NEC’s Ryan Koolwijk, and Rens van Eijden along with Cambuur’s Marcel Ritzmaier were given their matching orders.. Cambuur remain comfortable in 11th, while NEC remain 17th, and six points from safety with three games left.
Heracles 1-2 Go Ahead Eagles
Go Ahead Eagles are all but safe from relegation after coming from behind to beat Heracles 2-1 in Almelo.
Mikhail Rosheuvel had given Heracles the lead in the first half, but goals from Deniz Turuc and Erik Falkenburg turned the game on its head with twelve minutes to go. Go Ahead winger Jarchinio Antonia was shown red late on, but his side held on for the three points
Go Ahead are now 10th, while Heracles sit 12th, and neither side will fear being dragged into the relegation fight with three games left.
