The coach stated that he felt Utrecht should have won by a bigger scoreline and also mentioned how pleased he is about how his side are developing as a team and that they must strive for consistency.
Ten Hag said, ”I thought we played well today especially in the 2nd half where we played really attractive football and we created a lot of chances. It was difficult for us to get going in the 1st half and you see that more often when games are played at a lunchtime kick off. We had difficulties with ball possession and ball retention but we managed to correct these mistakes at half time.
”I must say that even though we created a lot of chances I believe that we should have won today’s game with a much bigger scoreline. Scoring goals can be simple but in the case of our strikers that are hunting for goals and it is not happening for them at the moment but I know at some point things will start to happen for them.
”I can only be positive as regards to how the team is developing. We are managing to control games more. It would be a big ask of team to dominate both halves for 45 minutes but that is that next step that we must make as a team. We are improving week on week and we have to do that in order to achieve anything of note this year.
”We must also learn to see out games in future but it is always the case when you have a young team that there is always something to improve. It is now the international break although the players will continue to train hard. We must realize as a squad that we need to be consistent.”
