Van de Looi lauded the fact his team kept a clean sheet against his former side.

He said, ”It’s nice to return to FC Groningen especially when you win against them. I have a history with the club having managed them when they won the KNVB Cup in 2015.

”If we keep playing the way we are doing at the moment then we will not be a relegation candidate.

”You must also not forget at the start of the season our squad came together very late and that we were also introducing a new formation too and we needed time to grow together.

”We created good chances tonight and we also did not give much away. I am really pleased that we managed to keep a clean sheet tonight.”
