Jesper Karlsson scored a late goal as AZ Alkmaar defeated Apollon Limassol 3-2 in the Europa Conference League.

AZ went into the game full of confidence as they sit top of the group and also the Eredivisie. Jens Odgaard returned up front in place of Jesper Karlsson and the striker netted the opener after 15 minutes.

However, Apollon Limassol quickly hit back through Patrick Joosten, with the former Utrecht winger finishing after the ball fell at his feet. Ioannis Pittas almost made it 2-1 to the visitors but Maxim Dekker made an important block.

AZ took control of the game after that chance but they struggled to create opportunities. After an hour, Dani de Wit was fouled and earned a penalty, which he netted himself to make it 2-1.

AZ did not hold onto the lead though with Euclides Cabral equalising with an excellent strike from just outside the box that flew into the top corner.

A few minutes before full-time, AZ got the victory thanks to substitute Karlsson who headed in a Milos Kerkez cross.

AZ are top of the group with three wins out of three and they have almost sealed their place in the next round.
