Ruud van Nistelrooy was boosted by the return of Noni Madueke, Luuk de Jong, and Mauro Junior, but all three started on the bench in London. Arsenal rested Aaron Ramsdale, Thomas Partey, Martin Ødegaard and Gabriel Martinelli for the clash which was rearranged due to the Queen’s funeral.
Arsenal was the stronger side in the first half but PSV managed to hold their own with Gabriel Jesus shooting wide with the host’s biggest chance. PSV only managed one shot on goal but Xavi Simons’s strike flew over.
PSV looked to defend in the second half with Arsenal constantly on the attack. Walter Benited denied Jesus and Bukayo Saka as the hosts poured forward.
Madueke made his return from the bench and Simons had another eye-catching run, but other than that PSV struggled to create anything. Granit Xhaka eventually gave Arsenal the lead, after he received the ball in the penalty area from Takehiro Tomiyasu.
De Jong was brought off the bench but it was Arsenal who came closer to adding more goals. Benitez denied Saka again before stopping Martinelli.
Arsenal saw out the win and they have now qualified for the next round. PSV are still in a commanding position in second.
