The Rotterdammers have history with Zorya having been drawn with the Ukrainians in the Europa League group stages back in 2014. Feyenoord won the home game 4-3 while drawing 1-1 away from home.
During his press conference, Giovanni van Bronckhorst stated that they will face a much tougher Zorya side this time around. He said, “Zorya made it very difficult for Fenerbahce and Manchester united. They are stronger than two years ago.”
Feyenoord have been unstoppable in the league this season having won all nine Eredivisie ties so far, but their only defeat so far has come in the Europa League with Fenerbahce coming out on top in a tie last month. Feyenoord started the Europa League with a 1-0 victory and a win on Thursday would put them in a commanding position at the halfway stage. Opponents Zorya have one point from their opening two games in the Europa League, but domestically they sit third in the Ukrainian league behind Shakhtar and Dynamo Kiev.
Feyenoord Team news
Van Bronckhorst has ruled out the possibility of Eljero Elie returning to the Feyenoord eleven for the game on Thursday, stating the winger would, however, come into contention for this weekends crucial tie with Ajax. The coach is unlikely to rest any of his players for the table topper on Sunday with Ajax boss Peter Bosz also stating he would field his strongest side for their tie with Celta Vigo.
Possible Feyenoord line-up: Jones, Karsdorp, Kongolo, Van der Heijden, Botteghin, El Ahmadi, Vilhena, Kuyt, Berghuis, Toornstra, Jorgensen
Jorgensen key for Feyenoord
Nicolai Jorgensen has started the season on fire for Feyenoord and he will be crucial if Feyenoord are to get three points on Thursday. The tall striker is always a threat in the box and if Feyenoord’s wingers can provide him with plenty of crosses he should be able to add to his tally of eight goals this season.
