Julian Lelieveld, Lassana Faye and Mason Mount all came into the Vitesse side as they searched for a win to keep their hopes of qualifying alive.
Lazio rested a number of their stars and Vitesse were equal to the Italians from the start. In the fourth minute, Mount set up Tim Matavz, but the striker’s shot flew past the goal. Ten minutes later it was 1-0 for the Eredivisie side with Mount tapping a free kick into the path of Bryan Linssen who smashed a curling strike into the net off the bar.
Lazio came into the game as the half wore on and just before the break they equalised when Luis Alberto smashed a volley past Remko Pasveer.
The second half saw Lazio seem to settle for the point while Vitesse, who brought on Mitchell van Bergen and Luc Castaignos, looked for a winner. Castaignos came the closest, but his header from a corner went over the bar.
With two points from five games, Vitesse remain bottom and are out of the competition with one game to go.
