Vitesse bounced back from their defeat to Ajax last week to comfortably see off Excelsior 3-0.

vit excExcelsior were on the end of the biggest shock in the KNVB Cup when they were defeated by amateur side Excelsior 31, and Fons Groenendijk were powerless to resist a far superior Vitesse side.

The away side took the lead on 16 minutes when Sander Fischer was penalised for handling in the box and Dominik Solanke slotted in from the spot.

Vitesse continued to dominate and only an excellent save from Tom Muyters denied Kevin Diks a second before the break, but four minutes into the second half the right back arrowed a strike into the bottom corner.

On 54 minutes Vitesse settled the game as Vako set up Milot Rashica in the box and the winger cut inside before firing into the net.

The lead could have been greater for Vitesse before the end but Lewis Baker’s powerful strike came back off the crossbar. The win sees Vitesse sit fifth, while Excelsior remain twelfth.
