An entertaining tie between Excelsior and Twente ended with both sides taking a point away from the Stadion Woudestein.

The home side, who went into the game without a win in their last seven matches, started brightly and they had the ball in the net early on, but Nigel Hasselbaink’s goal was ruled out for offside.

Then on fifteen minutes, Excelsior got the goal their start had deserved with Khalid Karami’s cross poked past Nick Marsman at close range by Hasselbaink. However, the lead only lasted twenty minutes before Yaw Yeboah’s cross landed at the feet of Fredrik Jensen and the midfielder blasted the ball in from a few yards out.

Early in the second half, Jensen nearly netted his second but this time Warner Hahn got in the way. At the other end, Excelsior created several chances to take all three points but the game saw no further goals.

The point means Excelsior move above Go Ahead Eagles into 14th while Twente remain 8th.
