AZ Alkmaar are still searching for their first win in the Eredivisie after being held to a 2-2 draw by Excelsior.

van weertJohn van den Brom’s side were brushed aside by Ajax last week, and they once again looked out of sorts in Rotterdam as Jeff Stans was given plenty of time at the back post to give Excelsior the lead after only nine minutes.

Five minutes laterĀ AZ found an equaliser as Markus Henriksen found the bottom corner from just outside the box, but Excelsior once again took advantage of poor defending to regain the lead just after the half hour mark. Jeff Stans free kick was headed down by Sander Fischer for the unmarked Tom van Weert to convert from close range,

In the second half Jordan Botaka failed to convert when one on one with Sergio Rochet, and that miss was punished by AZ as Robert Muhren took on a pass from Guus Hupperts before finding the net to make it 2-2.

Neither side could find a winner before the end, but the draw means both sides now have their first point of the season.
