The Rotterdam derby was a one-sided affair as Feyenoord hammered Excelsior 5-2 at the Stadion Woudestein.

immers feyexFeyenoord went into the game having had a week off after their game against PSV was postponed last Sunday, and Fred Ruttens side looked fresh as they took the lead after only six minutes as a mix up in the Excelsior defence allowed Colin Kazim-Richards to race through on goal before firing past Coutinho with help from the post.

Minutes later it should have been 2-0 when Karim El Ahmadi broke through a static Excelsior backline, but he was thwarted by an alert Coutinho, who also tipped over Lex Immers fierce drive on the rebound. However Coutinho was left stranded on 17 minutes when a poor backpass from Sander Fischer was latched upon by Jean Paul Boetius and the winger finished calmly to make it 2-0.

Just before the half hour mark it got worse for Excelsior as Lex Immers latched onto a long ball before firing past Coutinho on the volley to hand the visitors a more than comfortable half time lead.

Feyenoord had gone 605 minutes without conceding an away goal in the Eredivisie, but that record was ended by Jeff Stans who pulled one back for Excelsior on 51 minutes. However Feyenoord quickly responded, Jens Toornstra was given too much space to curl in for 4-1. before Immers slammed in a fifth from the edge of the box.

A slip from Tonny Vilhena four minutes from time put Feyenoords defence under pressure, and Jordan Botaka’s cross was diverted into his own net by Sven van Beek to hand the home side another consolation.

Its now seven wins in eight league games for Feyenoord and they close the gap on the top two, while Excelsior, who were hammered 5-0 by PEC Zwolle last week, are 14th.
