exherHeracles went into the match on the back off three straight defeats, but they took the lead after only 10 minutes when Denni Avdic took advantage of a poor back pass to net his first goal for the club. The goal came after Bryan Linssen had already hit the post for the visitors.

Excelsior drew level from the penalty spot through Jeff Stans after striker Daryl van Mieghem was fouled by Ramon Zomer in the box.

From that point there seemed like only one winner and Excelsior took the lead two minutes after the break, as Stans netted his second with an excellent strike from the edge of the area.

Van Mieghem headed Excelsior 3-1 ahead just before the hour mark, and the dominant home side could have went further ahead as Ninos Gouriye struck the woodwork, while Stans had a goal disallowed.

Heracles remain rooted to the bottom of the table, and the club remain the only side in the division without a point, while Excelsior earn their second win of the season.
