Excelsior Rotterdam came away from VVV Venlo on Saturday with a 3-2 victory

The visitors were the dominant force from the start and eventually took the lead on 35 minutes when Levi Garcia fired into the left corner after finding space.

However, the lead only lasted six minutes before Jurgen Mattheij headed into his own net to gift VVV Venlo an equaliser.

Hicham Faik restored Excelsior’s lead on 61 minutes with a fine strike from distance before Mike van Duinen sealed the win with nine minutes left.

Lennart Thy pulled one back for VVV before the end but that was only a consolation. Excelsior move up to 11th with VVV one spot behind.
