Excelsior Rotterdam have made it two wins from two at the start of the season after they defeated Vitesse Arnhem 3-1 on Friday evening.

Both teams had contrasting starts to the season with Excelsior winning their opening game 2-0 against Cambuur, while Vitesse were battered 5-2 at home by Feyenoord.

In the 15th minute, Reda Kharchouch opened the scoring for the hosts as he turned away from a static Vitesse defence before slotting past Jeroen Houwen. Five minutes later, Marouan Azarkan found Kharchouch with a lovely ball and the striker lobbed Houwen to make it 2-0.

Nikolai Baden Frederiksen pulled one back for Vitesse after half an hour and the striker thought he should have had a penalty before the break but his appeals were waved away.

Vitesse went on the attack in the second half but Excelsior eventually made it 3-1 as Kharchouch set up Kenzo Goudmijn to seal the hosts victory.

Substitute Thomas Buitink had a goal disallowed for offside for Vitesse, who also had Sondre Tronstad sent off before the end.

Excelsior jumps to the top of the table for now, while Vitesse concedes eight goals in their first two league games for the first time in their history.
