Groningen has announced that their head coach Ernest Faber will leave the club at the end of the season.

Faber has been in charge of Groningen since 2016, taking over from Erwin van de Looi, but after talks with the club’s board it has been decided that he will leave at the end of the season.

He told the club’s website, ‘Both parties had the same idea to want to take a different path after this season. I had already made that decision for myself. We continue with each other in a professional manner and focus all our attention on a good second half of the season. ”

Faber guided Groningen to 8th place last season, while the currently sit 13th.
