According to Eindhovens Dagblad, FC Cincinatti have given up on signing PSV Eindhoven midfielder Gaston Pereiro.

The MLS side managed by Dutchman Ron Jans agreed a deal with PSV for the Uruguayan, whose contract runs out in Eindhoven next summer.

However, Pereiro wants to remain in Europe and negotiations with his agent Paco Casal have been tricky. Yesterday, FC Cincinatti chairman Gerard Nijkamp set Pereiro’s camp a deadline of 6pm on Monday to decide whether he wants to go ahead with a move.

That deadline has now passed and Nijkamp has confirmed to Eindhovens Dagblad that the deal is off, “We are now going to investigate other options.”

Pereiro’s future is now unclear with PSV boss Ernest Faber confirming last week that he would not play the midfielder until after the transfer window, should he remain in Eindhoven.

Aston Villa were offered the midfielder last week but it’s unclear whether the Premier League side are interested in a January deal.
