FC Cincinnati director Gerard Nijkamp has reacted to the club using the wrong photo on Twitter when announcing Jaap Stam as their new head coach.

On Thursday, the MLS side announced Stam as their new head coach, but their Twitter announcement featured a photo of Ajax youth trainer Tinus van Teunenbroek instead of the former defender.

The error remained for a while before the post was eventually taken down and replaced with a photo of Stam.

Speaking to Fox Sports, FC Cincinnati director Gerard Nijkamp said on the mistake, “That is of course not something that makes you happy.

“Certainly not, because we are announcing one of the most important positions in the club. But it happened, it was reacted to in a fun way.”

Nijkamp doesn’t believe Stam would have cared, “I think Jaap is the person who had the least problems with that. And that’s a good thing.

“But we as a club – and especially our media department – are very disappointed with that.”
