FC Twente stormed to the top of the Eredivisie table after smashing Groningen 5-0 in Enschede in the final match of round eight.

twenteAfter 18 minutes Twente had the lead, with Rasmus Bengtsson deflecting a Felipe Gutierrez free-kick into the net from close range.

Ten minutes later it was 2-0 to the home side, as Shadrach Eghan reacted quickly to a parried cross, and finished from a few yards out.

Before the break Groningen were reduced to ten men, when Johan Kappelhof was adjudged to bundle over Eghan from close range, and Dusan Tadic blasted the penalty in to make it 3-0.

The game was no longer in doubt, and Twente extended their lead on 53 minutes, with Eghan grabbing his second of the game by smashing in a volley after Luc Castaignos had seen his shot saved.

Just before the end, Jesus Corona netted his first goal since joining Twente, seizing on a defensive error before brilliantly chipping the ball over the goalkeeper, and into the net.

Twente now sit top of the table, overtaking PSV Eindhoven thanks to a superior goal difference, while Groningen slip down to 9th after their third defeat of the season.
