Five minutes before half time, De Ridder netted his second, finishing from an acute angle, after bursting into the box from the left hand side.

In the second half, De Ridder could have got his hat-trick, but the forward could not finish off Jens Toornstra’s low cross.

After the hour mark, RKC brought themselves back into the game, when Remy Amieux fired a low free kick through the wall, and past a wrong footed Jeroen Verhoeven.

The visitors looked for the equaliser, but Robert Braber’s cross came back off the Utrecht post, much to the relief of keeper Verhoeven.

Verhoeven made a couple of fine stops to deny RKC their equaliser, while Yassine Ayoub missed a good chance to add a third for the home side.

Utrecht  held on for the three points, and claim their second win of the season, while RKC continue to slip towards the bottom two, sitting 16th.
