Fenerbahce have confirmed the appointment of Ersun Yanal as their new head coach.

At the end of October, Phillip Cocu was relieved of his duties after a horror start to his reign in Turkey.

Since then, Cocu’s assistant Erwin Koeman has acted as caretaker and was believed to be in the running for the job on a permanent basis. However, Fenerbahce confirmed Yanal’s appointment on Friday.

Yanal was Fenerbahce coach during the 2013/14 season and has now signed a one-and-a-half year contract. It is unclear whether Koeman will remain at the club as his assistant.

Fenerbahce are currently 17th in the Turkish Super-Lig.
