The 33-year-old has missed most of the season through injury and although he has returned to fitness, Vincent Janssen and Roberto Soldado are ahead in the pecking order.

Sporx is reporting that Fenerbahce will now try and sell Van Persie in January, with the club hoping to clear the wage bill and remove a foreign player from their selection. Should the Dutch international fail to find a new club, Fenerbahce would reportedly be willing to terminate his contract.

Feyenoord were heavily linked with Van Persie in the summer but couldn’t agree a deal with Fenerbahce. They may return with a new bid in January or wait to see if the former Arsenal and Manchester United star becomes a free agent.
