An off-key Feyenoord recorded a 1-0 win over Willem II thanks to a first half header from Jens Toonstra.

The home side dominated the game from the beginning but struggled to break Willem II’s defence down with Kostas Lamprou saving an early effort from Nicolai Jorgensen.

Finally, on the half hour mark, Feyenoord took the lead with Jens Toornstra guiding Eljero Elia’s curling cross past Lamprou with a fine header.

On 64 minutes Elia thought he had doubled the hosts lead when he raced onto Rick Karsdorp’s pass and scooped the ball into the net, but the linesman wrongly ruled the goal out for offside.

Feyenoord couldn’t net a decisive second goal and they were sloppy in possession towards the end but Willem II couldn’t test Brad Jones and the leaders saw out their victory, which moves them eight points ahead of Ajax.
