In an intense game, Feyenoord took the lead through Graziano Pelle just before half time, but a Guram Kashia header rescued a point for Vitesse.
Feyenoord started the game brightly with Jean Paul Boetius firing just wide early on, and Tonny Vilhena also seeing a header fly off target after a swift move.
The home side did finally take the lead after 39 minutes, with a trademark Graziano Pelle header from six yards out following a great cross from Boetius.
Bruno Martins Indi may face action from the KNVB after replays showed the defender deliberately stamping on Renato Ibarra. The referee missed the incident, but there may be further action to follow.
Vitesse equalised on 56 minutes, with Ibarra putting in a perfect cross for defender Guram Kashia to power a header past Erwin Mulder.
The game went from end to end in the last ten minutes, with Mulder having to make a tremendous save to deny Patrick van Aanholt, while Vilhena missed a glorious chance in front of goal in the 2nd minute of injury time.
With both sides dropping points, Ajax could pull away at the top of the table when they face Utrecht on Sunday. A win for Frank de Boer’s side could put them four points ahead of Vitesse.
