immsThe home side were frustrated in the first half, as they were unable to turn their domination into goals, with Stefan de Vrij’s point blank header, which was impressively kept out by Kristoffer Nordfeldt, the closest they came.

Four minutes into the second half, Feyenoord were awarded a free kick just outside the box on the right hand side, and midfielder Ruud Vormer curled it perfectly into the top corner to finally make it 1-0 to the home side.

Feyenoord then netted a second just after the hour mark when Jean Paul Boetius’s cross found Lex Immers on the edge of the box, and the midfielder side footed the ball into the bottom corner.

On 73 minutes Feyenoord were awarded a penalty when Christian Kum brought down Ruben Schaken, earning the Heerenveen defender a straight red. However Tonny Vilhena’s spot kick was tipped round the post by Nordfeldt.

The three points lifts Feyenoord back above PSV into fourth, and they are now one point behind Twente, and Vitesse in the race for the second Champions League place. Heerenveen remain 6th.
